A mixed designer breed, starts by breeding two purebred dogs.
A cross of a golden retriever and a poodle means approximately 50% poodle + 50% retriever and is called an F1.
An F1 crossed back to another poodle is an F1B and will be approximately 75% poodle and 25% retriever.
An F1B crossed with a poodle again would result in an F1BB. Any cross after that we consider “multi-generational”.
Genetic testing would be required to identify the exact genes and percentage of parentage. We strive to keep roughly 75% poodle and 25% retriever in our puppies. We believe that is an ideal combination to maintain the integrity and ideal traits of both breeds.
An F1 crossed with and F1 results in an F2. This cross can result in very inconsistent coats which is sometimes undesirable.
